Have you ever pretended you were an agent when you were a child? I came across a book series about kid agents that's a little different and more serious than a lot of the stuff you find in Hollywood movies. Still I love it and even though I was much younger when I found the series, I still like to read it. Take a look at Robert Muchamore's Cherub!
Cherub (series) by Robert Muchamore
James Adams is only a teenager but not an ordinary one: He's working for Cherub, a special unit of the FBI which trains kids from a young age on to become agents. While he goes on missions to save many lives, he and the other protagonists including his girlfriend and his younger sister face challenges every teenager has to face one day.
I enjoyed that this novel's book is not plainly
divided in good and evil but the young
protagonists understand they're fighting for one
country. The idea is awesome as many young girls
adn boys have at some point dreamed about being a
child agent and the author takes this dream to
another level as he writes a young adult instead
of a children novel, although he definitely makes
those childhood dreams return, although the
author doesn't glorify the often tough work. The
plot and the crimes never seem unreal.
As James isn't the typical hero, the reader has a
hard time identifying with him. At some points
the series also lacks suspense as the allday
routine of the young agents may be something to
talk about but contains of only few cliffhangers.
Many parts of the series and many ways of solving
the given problem consist of violence and often
seem to glorify it. Also, some sayings consist of
cursing or are highly sexual and the scenes
between James and his girlfriends are nothing to
read for kids at the right age to love agent
novels, partially because faithfulness doesn't
always seem important.
Sometimes the words Robert Muchamore chose may not be right for younger readers, but nevertheless the young agent's world is so exciting young adults will love the insigt to a world that's a colorful mix of fast cars and teens with typical teen problems!
